This page shows up as the most wanted article for over a year now. This is linked to by astronomy pages and is the name of some star. Where is Til mentioned? Not in LotR or the Silmarillion and it's not in Fauskanger's Quenya wordlist. Sage 07:37, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- And a quick peek in HoMe Index also draws up a blank. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 07:39, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- The redlink appeared on the Template:Cosmology, that's why it became the most wanted article (as the template is used on many articles). I removed the redlink.--Morgan 10:01, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- I can't find it anywhere either. It is found on Wikipedia and is, of course, not sourced - Wikipedia:Middle-earth cosmology. "til" does, however, appear in The Silmarillion Appendix; it is a Quenya element meaning 'point, horn'.-- KingAragorn talk contribs edits email 10:07, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
Solved[edit source]
I have worked this out. The error appears to come from here, where it describes "Til" as "a small star near Sirius". The only explanation is that this is a mistake, "Til" should read "Gil". But Gil (Ingil) can not be "a small star near Sirius" because it is an early name for Nielluin (Sirius).[1]
- So What is your conclusion? Does the name Til exist, or is an error made by the M.D.? Sage 12:12, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I believe it was an error.-- KingAragorn talk contribs edits email 18:24, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- I'll see if I can get Beregond's opinion about this.--Morgan 13:12, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- That would be useful.-- KingAragorn talk contribs edits email 18:24, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Mystery solved (and no need to contact M.D. or Beregond): The article in question says that "Til" is found in PE 12. And this is correct; page 92 says "Til(1) -l- a small star near Sirius." --Morgan 19:20, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- I feel like I embarked upon a wild-goose chase!-- KingAragorn talk contribs edits email 11:53, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
