Ilkorin[edit source]

It seems to me - and I could be wrong - that the suggestion that Esgalduin is Sindarin is questionable. Entry SKAL1- on The Etymologies says it explicitly, whilst entries DUI- and ESGE- imply it. Any help? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:53, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think you left out a sentence that it's supposed to be Ilkorin. That's what all the entries say anyway. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:58, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Indeed, but our article does not (and the sentence which claims Esgalduin is Ilkorin has been challenged). But then, The Silmarillion index makes it seem as if it is Sindarin. I'm in a bit of a muddle of this: could do with a linguist to sort this out. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:09, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's the Appendix; though no language is specified at the entry Esgal-, the appendix is titled "Quenya and Sindarin" only. That and the assumption that most of Ilk was absorbed into S,(citation needed) would mean a big fat [note1] behind whatever language we decide to go for. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:28, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
