John Benjamin Tolkien (June 1752 - 27 January 1819) was George Tolkien's father, and J.R.R. Tolkien’s great-great-grandfather. He was born in Gdańsk (Danzig) in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and he emigrated to the United Kingdom after 1770. His wife and George's mother was Mary Wall (1746 - 16 March 1837).[1]

John Benjamin Tolkien and his wife Mary are buried at Burnhill Fields in the same grave with William Shrubsole, an English musician and composer of the hymn-tune "Miles Lane".
