Inzilbêth was a Queen of Númenor.

History[edit | edit source]

She was the daughter of Lindórië, who was the sister of Eärendur, the fifteenth Lord of Andúnië,[2] and a descendant of Tar-Calmacil.[3]

Her family was secretly Faithful and she had been taught by her mother. As such, when Ar-Gimilzôr asked her for marriage, she refused but Ar-Gimilzôr did not allow his wishes to be denied.[2] There was no love between Inzilbêth and her husband or between her sons. Her elder son Inziladûn, who would take the royal title of Tar-Palantir, followed her teachings rather than his father's when he became King of Númenor. Her younger son Gimilkhâd however, would follow in the footsteps of his father.[2][3]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Inzilbêth is an Adûnaic name. Its meaning is not glossed, but Paul Strack suggests it means "Flower-word" and is a compound of inzil ("flower") and bêth ("word").[4]
