George Tolkien

George Tolkien (20 October 1784 - 1 June 1840), son of John Benjamin Tolkien and Mary Wall, was J.R.R. Tolkien's great-grandfather. George was married to Eliza Lydia Murrell (1787 - 1863). They had eleven children, the second oldest of which, John Benjamin (1807 - 1896), was the grandfather of J.R.R. Tolkien.[1]

George is known to have worked in 1799 as an apprentice to his paternal uncle Daniel Tolkien, the City citizen and a furrier.[2]
