Edwin Lowdham was the father of Alwin Arundel Lowdham.

History[edit | edit source]

Edwin was a wealthy man, and had a great passion for the sea. He spent a great deal of time sailing about Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland and sometimes even going as far south as to the Azores. In 1947 he set sail in his ship the Éarendel with only three sailors accompanying him, and was never seen again.[1]

Later, his son Arundel found a manuscript written in Tengwar which contained an account of the Downfall of Númenor in Old English written by Edwin.[1][2]

He is described by his son as being large, tall, powerful and dark.[1]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The name Edwin (Old English: Éadwine) contains the elements ead "bliss" (seen also in Éadig) and wine "friend".[3]
