Category talk:Songs

From Tolkien Gateway

I propose deleting this category. I adds nothing and there is already a mess with all the categories for poems, lays, documents, outside and within the Legendarium. --LorenzoCB 16:01, 14 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think some people do make the distinction, so I think having one "Poems and songs" category (for all in-universe stuff) would make an element of sense. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 15:01, 20 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But there is already Category:Lays and tales within the legendarium, which includes many songs. This simply has those songs from The Hobbit and LOTR. We could include Category:Poems in The Hobbit and Category:Poems in The Lord of the Rings in "Lays and tales", as they are all in-universe, and simplify things. --LorenzoCB 16:54, 20 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
A lay may be a poem, but a poem or a song is not necessarily a lay or tale. We can't fold everything into that. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 17:56, 20 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Then it should be "Poems and songs within the legendarium", to fit with the other Category:Lays and tales within the legendarium and Category:Books and documents within the legendarium. And what would be the criteria to know what's a poem and what's a lay? Too many categories IMO, we could merge all in one like "Literary works within the legendarium". --LorenzoCB 18:24, 20 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
