:Meaning and etymologies of names in the legendarium (such as names of Orcs) should only be explained by references to Tolkien's works and/or linguistic sources by Tolkien scholars. The page on David Salo's blog is neither of these (it's a list of Orcish in The Hobbit films), and the information can therefore not be added to etymology sections in articles at Tolkien Gateway. == PE22 citation template ==
Hello there; would it be possible to create a citation template for Parma Eldalamberon 22? Template:PE says to comment here, and the templates only run through PE21. My suggestions:
PE|22 = J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Feanorian Alphabet, Part I and Quenya Verb Structure", in Parma Eldalamberon XXII (edited by Christopher Gilson and Arden R. Smith)
If you felt like doing subdivisions (which could be possible for some of the other PEs too), these would work:
22a = J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Feanorian Alphabet, Part I", in Parma Eldalamberon XXII (edited by Arden R. Smith)

22b = J.R.R. Tolkien, "Qenya Spelling", in Parma Eldalamberon XXII (edited by Christopher Gilson and Arden R. Smith)

22c = J.R.R. Tolkien, "Quenya Verb Structure", in Parma Eldalamberon XXII (edited by Christopher Gilson)

Unweg 04:40, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

::Thanks, Unweg — I've added your suggestions to the template — and Mith. Unweg: if you feel confident about editing template pages, feel free to add subdivisions (or any other changes) yourself. == MERP ==
I saw on your collection that you have almost all the MERP modules. Mith has been bugging me by claiming that MERP modules are not an adaption and reverted at least one of my edits where I added MERP modules that contain information related to a page in TG and a short summary of what is in that module in the Other versions of the legendarium section. MERP has interesting information and if films and Computer games are usually permitted as adaptions in TG pages, then MERP should be permitted too. I could use some backup before re-reverting edits and explaining why MERP is an adaption and merits a link on TG pages. --Akhorahil 19:42, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
:Could you point to a discussion of the issue, or to the page where it was reverted, so I can have a look? --Morgan 19:15, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
::Thank you for your reply. I am happy to provide you with a list of deletions and changes made by the user Mith that relate to information on MERP/MECCG products in Portrayal in adaptions sections of pages. Being 32 years old the user Mith is probably not familiar with MERP. However, just because MERP and MECCG adaptions are books and are older an a very well done fan made map in MERP's Fenlon style based on information from MERP does not make them "not an adaption" or less worth than computer games or the films, which are prominently shown in the Portrayals in adaptions sections on many pages. In fact the Information in MERP products is often much more detailed than in computer games or the films and the latter do not cover some of the geographic areas and cover a different period in time. The Edits by the user Mith are inconsistent and conflict with each other and are thus frustrating to the user who spent time and effort to look up the information and to do the edits. One one hand, the user Mith seems to complain that general and brief information is not detailed enough, because it does not tell him something ("This tells me nothing", "This isn't tellung us anything about the portrayal. This is just a list of things", "a trivial list") on the other hand he complains that it is too much ("this is too much", "trivial list too much as wasn't needed", "This article needs less MERP not more"). The user Mith cannot have the cake and eat it too. Either the information on what is in those MERP products relating to the Tolkien Gateway page (e.g. South Gondor, Ithilien, Dunland, etc.) is very detailed and tells you a lot how the geography, flora, fauna, settlements, people are portrayed in those MERP products or the information is brief and general and just a summary and if a reader wants to know more then the reader has to read those MERP modules (which can be found on the internet). I have respect for the authors of MERP which often had academic training in relevant fields. The micromanagement done by the user Mith is demotivating. There would be much more important work for users like Mith to check the sources on many prominent articles and to delete incorrect information or to disclose speculations as speculations other than exercising his personal opinion on what he considers an "adaption" or what he considers important. I see a lot of users spending their time to correct typos or grammar or fixing broken references. I also do such edits, but such edits are easy to do and are low hangig fruits. In my opinion, it is more important to check contents and the references for accuracy by reading the sources, deleting wrong statements and adding or correcting references, disclosing speculuative statements as such and providing the basis on which speculative statements are based. --Akhorahil 10:11, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

PE22 citation template

Hello there; would it be possible to create a citation template for Parma Eldalamberon 22? Template:PE says to comment here, and the templates only run through PE21. My suggestions:
