Terminology
Tolkien uses "stem", "base", and "root" - are they of exactly the same meaning? --Morgan 21:31, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Nearly. I think the OED probably does a better job of explaining them than I would (see "grammar" sections at the bottom of each page): stem, base and root. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:57, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Just noting a terminology used by Tolkien: "Common Eldarin base LOG" (so far, I've used "Primitive Quendian root XYZ" in the "root" articles), in J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Rivers and Beacon-hills of Gondor" (edited by Carl F. Hostetter), in Vinyar Tengwar, Number 42, July 2001, p. 10.--Morgan 10:03, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
