Marcho was one of the two Bree-hobbits who founded the Shire in T.A. 1601. The other was his brother, Blanco.[1]
Etymology
Old English and Celtic marka is an element that refers to "horse" (see mearas).
Inspiration
The two brothers are perhaps based on Hengest and Horsa, who brought the Saxons to Britany.[2]
