mîr means "jewel" in Sindarin. In Quenya, -mir is a short form of mírë, which also means "jewel" (in names like Ardamir, Tar-Atanamir).
Examples
- "untúpa Calaciryo míri oialë ('covers the jewels of Calacirya for ever.')"
- ― Namárië
- Míriel = "Jewel-daughter" (Quenya)
- Ardamir = "Jewel of Arda" (Quenya)
- Boromir = "Faithful Jewel" (Sindarin)
