Isumbras Took II[note 1] was a Hobbit of the Shire.
History
Isumbras presumably lived in the first millennium of the Shire Reckoning during which he became Thain, sometime after Isumbras I.[1]
Etymology
"Isumbras" is of French and Anglo-Saxon origin and means "iron-arm". It comes from the French bras meaning "arm", and the Anglo-Saxon and Middle High German word isen which means "iron".[2]
Tolkien possibly got the name from Sir Isumbras, an English medieval romance about a man who suffers a lifetime of hardship but who finds happiness in his latter years.[3]

- ↑ The existence of this character can only be deduced based on the ordinals in Appendix C, "Took of Great Smials". There is an Isumbras III, and Isumbras I was mentioned as the first thain from the Took Family. No II is recorded in the incomplete family tree.
