Himlad was a cold land in East Beleriand, a plain lying between the Rivers Aros and Celon, right below Himring; it communicated with Lothlann through the Pass of Aglon to the north.[1]
History
During the Siege of Angband it was held by Celegorm and Curufin, two of the Sons of Fëanor, who guarded the Pass of Aglon.[2] Their dwelling was located atop a low hill at the south eastern corner of the Pass.[3]
Etymology
The name comes from him "cool"[4] and lad "plain".[5]
Other versions of the legendarium
In the draft of the Of Maeglin chapter, the dwelling of Celegorm and Curufin was located at the south western corner of the Pass. However, Christopher Tolkien Believed that "this was a slip of the pen".[3]
