The '''Firebeards''' were one of the seven houses of the [[Dwarves]]. They were originally paired with the [[Broadbeams]]. The Firebeards lived in [[Nogrod]] in the [[Ered Luin]] during the [[First Age]]. They were most renowned for having the greatest crafters and smiths, even by Dwarf standards in Middle-earth. They were also great masons, for they aided the Noldor build [[Nargothrond]].  
The Firebeards (with the Broadbeams) awoke in the [[Blue Mountains]] and lived there throughout the history of their people. Of the two Dwarf houses of [[Beleriand]], the Firebeards were the least friendly. They fought the [[Elves]] over the treasure of [[Nargothrond]]. Their lust for jewels and other treasures led them to the murdering of King [[Thingol]] of the [[Nauglamir]], and the [[Sack of Doriath]]. After this act of treachery as they were returning home they were waylaid by [[Beren|Beren Erchamion]] and [[Elves of Ossiriand]] in the [[Battle of Sarn Athrad]]. Those few that survived fled into the woods and the arms of the [[Ents]] who massacred the remainder.

After thousands of years it seems the Firebeards may have parted ways with [[Durin's folk]] after the awakening of [[Durin's Bane]], and returned to the Ered Luin, where things were likely much better than after the sinking of Beleriand.

The Firebeards were one of the seven houses of the Dwarves. They were originally paired with the Broadbeams. The ancestor of the Firebeards was among the oldest (together with the ancestors of the Broadbeams and Longbeards) of the Seven Ancestors of the Dwarves.[2]

The Firebeards (with the Broadbeams) awoke in the Blue Mountains and lived there throughout the history of their people. These two houses built the great Dwarven cities of Nogrod and Belegost in the Blue Mountains, and dwelt in them before their ruining in the War of Wrath. It is not clear whether they shared the two cities or whether each house dwelt in its own.[3] In an earlier version of the legendarium the two cities are clearly inhabited by separate houses; however, Belegost is said to be the home of the Longbeards.[4]

In the Second Age, around the year 40,[5] the Firebeards and Broadbeams who lived in Nogrod and Belegost left the destruction behind and came to Khazad-dûm, increasing its wealth and power.[6]

However, there always remained some Dwarves on the eastern side of the Blue Mountains in days afterwards.[7]

The House corresponding to the Firebeards is called Úri's Folk, said to being "instantly recognizable by the fiery hue of their beards". After the destruction of Nogrod, some of Úri's Folk went to join the Longbeards at Khazad-dûm, while others delved new halls in the southern Ered Luin.[8]
