Durin VII had to have been born after [[Fourth Age 171]], as at the time of the copying of the [[Red Book of Westmarch]], his birth remained a matter of prophecy.

Song of Durin[2]

Durin VII (lived in the Fourth Age) was the last of the six reincarnations of Durin the Deathless.

History

The actions of Durin VII were prophesied long before he was born, at the time of the Battle of Azanulbizar.[3]

Durin VII was the direct descendant of king Thorin III Stonehelm (according to some sources, his son).[1]

He led Durin's folk back to Khazad-dûm and restored the ancient kingdom during the Fourth Age. There his house remained until the world grew old and the Dwarves failed and the days of Durin's race were ended.[4]

Etymology

Notes

  1. The mention of Durin's name as a prophecy in the Appendix A, and considering that the Appendix derives from the Red Book (copied Fo.A. 171), seems to suggest that he was probably born, or emerged, after that date.
  2. An alternative version of the genealogical tree of Appendix A suggested Durin VII was the son of Thorin III.
