celebrin

celebrin is a Sindarin adjective meaning "like silver (in hue or worth)".[1] It is composed of the noun celeb ("silver") + -ren, an adjective suffix.[2]

Words similar to, and with a similar meaning appear all the way to the earliest legendarium:

  • In Gnomish, a very early precursor to Sindarin associated with The Book of Lost Tales, there appear the adjectives celebriol and celebrin, meaning "like silver" and "of silver", respectively.[3]
  • In Noldorin, a somewhat later precursor to Sindarin, there appears the adjective celebren, likewise meaning "of silver, like silver".[4]
