The name given by Hobbits to the river the Elves called Baranduin

The English name 'Brandywine' is meant to be a translation of the Westron words Branda-nîn (borderland-water) and Bralda-hîn (heady ale), both being Hobbitish alterations of the original Elvish name Baranduin.

The name Brandywine therefore both resembles the original word Baranduin, and expresses the Hobbitish meanings as well, consisting thus an ideal translation from Westron.
