Bowman Cotton was the fourth child of Farmer Tolman Cotton, Bowman was a younger brother of Rose Cotton, and so became Sam Gamgee's brother-in-law after Rose and Sam married. Bowman came of age - at the normal Hobbit age of thirty-three - in the year T.A. 3019, when the Shire was under the power of Sharkey's Men.
