Bar-erib (also spelled as Bar Erib[2][note 1]) was a stronghold of Dor-Cúarthol some leagues south of Amon Rûdh.

History

The stronghold of Bar-erib was one of the many guarded camps and fortresses that were established around the Echad i Sedryn, during the brief existence of Dor-Cúarthol, the realm ruled by the Two Captains. Bar-erib was located within "the once fertile land between Narog and the Meres of Sirion." It was said that from Bar-erib, there was a view to the north where the summit of Amon Rûdh could be seen and commands and messages could be received to and from both locations through signals.[3][4]

Etymology

Bar-erib is Sindarin for "Dwelling of the Lonely Ones",[2] from bâr ("home, house, dwelling") + erib ("single, alone, lonely") (pl.).[5]
