Like his forefathers, he was raised by Elrond in Rivendell while his father Arathorn I dwelt in the wild. He became the Chieftain of the Dúnedain in 2848 T.A., when his father was killed by wolves.

At the end of Argonui's rule in 2911 the Fell Winter began and White Wolves invaded Eriador from the North, some of them crossing the frozen river Baranduin into the Shire.
Etymology
Argonui's name is Sindarin and means "Valorous King", coming from the prefix ar- meaning "royal, king", and conui (from caun meaning valour, and ui an adjectival ending) becoming lenited to gonui meaning "valour". Conui can also be considered to mean "commanding".

Argonui died in 2912, possibly as a result of the Fell Winter, and was followed by his son Arador.

Argonui (T.A. 2757[1] - 2912,[2] died aged 155) was the thirteenth Chieftain of the Dúnedain.

History

Argonui succeeded his father, Arathorn I, in 2848.[2]

Towards the end of his rule, in 2911, the Fell Winter began with the Brandywine freezing over. This was a catalyst for White Wolves invading Eriador from the North.[3]

In the last year of his reign, great floods devastated Enedwaith and Minhiriath, leaving Tharbad ruined and deserted.[3]

Argonui died in 2912, after having ruled for 64 years, and was followed by his son Arador.[2]

Etymology

Argonui's name is Sindarin and means "Valorous King", coming from the prefix ar- meaning "royal, king", and conui (from caun meaning valour, and ui an adjectival ending) becoming lenited to gonui meaning "valour". Conui can also be considered to mean "commanding".
