Etymology
Two etymologies for "Arathorn" exist. The first, written shortly after the publication of The Lord of the Rings, gave "Steadfast King" (from aran "king" and thorn "steadfast").[2] A later etymology gave the meaning of the name as "Eagle King" (from aran "king" and thoron "eagle").[3]
