Concerning your recent revert[edit source]

See here: First Age#Terminology. You pointed out that "I think 'most of the First Age' is fine, since in the 600 years of the 1st age, the city was inhabited for nigh 4 centuries." However, in fact the First Age was much longer than just those six hundred Years of the Sun since in the Appendix F it is mentioned that the Noldorin Exiles returned to Middle-earth at the end of the First Age. So if it was the end of the First Age when they returned before the first sunrise, then how can the first sunrise mark the beginning of the First Age? After all, Christopher Tolkien himself frequently used the wording "the last six centuries of the First Age". -- Ar-Zigûr (talk) 19:08, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I do admit to have believed such misconception; that the rising of the Sun, and simultaneous ending of "the ages of the stars" (as referred in the Silmarillion), would mark the beginning of the First Age. Such clear references you've shown had, up until now, unknowingly passed me by.
Thanks for clarifying. Tarkil (talk) 22:12, 8 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I noticed that J.R.R. Tolkien almost never used the word "century" in his narratives. If there is the word "ages" without the capitalization in the text, this means just indefinitely long period of time so the "ages of the Stars" in fact means the "centuries of the Stars", but if the word "Age" is written with capitalization, this means specific historical period of Arda.
Thanks for anwering, anyway) -- Ar-Zigûr (talk) 06:59, 9 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
