Should be called "Great Desert" instead of "The Great Desert". Unsigned comment by TheOneCleanHippy (talk • contribs).

I agree, the article has been moved. --Hyarion 19:13, 15 April 2008 (EDT)

Canon?[edit source]

Where does this name come from? I didn't find it in the indexes of the HoME, LoTR, UT, Silm or even in the Atlas of the Middle-earth. Google results swarm with fanfiction and various game pages. --Tik 22:19, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for noting this, Tik. I couldn't find it either. I'll suggest a deletion (unless someone finds a reference in any of Tolkien's writings).--Morgan 23:26, 1 January 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
+1 for deletion, I've been combing through the texts trying to figure out if Khand supplied horses to Mordor, and while I did that, I cross-referenced any mentioning of near and far Harad. Even in his letters, I could not find any mention of the "Great Desert" of Harad. Online, I found it being called: Nâfarat or Lithaer, which are not Tolkien place names. It all seems to be sourced in a Middle-earth role playing game and based on in the idea of a Sahara-like region in Middle-earth, thus equating Harad more directly to modern Africa (and completely ignoring the fact that the Sahara used to be lush and green a mere 7k years ago). :P --Elf-esteem 04:48, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
