Second Age 1701

Second Age 1701 (abbreviated to S.A. 1701) is the 1701st year of the Sun of the Second Age of Middle-earth.
Notable events in this year include:
- Sauron is driven out of Eriador,[1] narrowly escaping to Mordor with but a bodyguard.[2]
- The first White Council is held. It is decided to establish the Elvish stronghold in eastern Eriador at Imladris rather than in Eregion.[2]
- Gil-galad gives Vilya to Elrond.[2]
- The extent of Gil-galad's realm of Lindon has been diminished and withdrawn from Eriador back to the Blue Mountains.[3]
- The Westlands have peace for a long while.[1]
