On 7 July 1946, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to G.E. Selby.[1][2]
- Publication: Extracts from the letter appeared in Sotheby's Nineteenth Century and Modern First Editions, Presentation Copies, Autograph Letters and Literary Manuscripts 28-29 July 1977,[2], in Soteby's Catalogue of Printed Books, Manuscripts and Music 27 May and 10 June 1986,[3] and in Maggs Bros. Autograph Letters & Historical Documents (Catalogue 1086, printed in 1988). A summary of the letter was provided by Christina Scull and Wayne G. Hammond in The J.R.R.
