Tarnost

Tarnost was, presumably, a city in Gondor. It was located on the northern foothills of the Hills of Tarnost, between the river Gilrain to the east and Dol Amroth to the west. To the north was the river Ringló. The city is not mentioned in The Lord of the Rings.
[edit] Other versions of the Legendarium
Tarnost and the Hills of Tarnost are so named on the map of the White Mountains in The Atlas of Middle-earth.[1] However, in the close-up map of Gondor in The Return of the King, the hills are not named, and the city is not present.[2] The only reference can be found in The War of the Ring: In the Western map section there is a dot visible in square Q12 at the northern tip of the hills south of the Ringló, and the text states that it had a penciled note calling it Tarnost. The hills are unnamed.[3]
