Ecthelion I (Third Age 2600[1] – 2698,[2] aged 98 years) was the seventeenth Ruling Steward of Gondor.
History[edit | edit source]
He succeeded his father Orodreth at his death in T.A. 2685. He rebuilt the White Tower in Minas Tirith, which afterwards carried his name.
Ecthelion had no children. He was followed by Egalmoth, the grandson of Orodreth's sister Morwen, at his death in 2698.[1]
Etymology[edit | edit source]
For the meaning of his name refer to Ecthelion - Etymology. It is possible that Ecthelion I was named after the Noldo hero of the First Age.[3]
