He succeeded his father Eärnil I in 936 and continued Eärnil's naval policies. He spent much of his life to maintain the Haven of Umbar that was captured by his father. He defended the haven against the Haradrim, who were led by the Black Númenóreans, whom his father had driven off Umbar.
