This is a test page by User:Ederchil. It is an early version of "Help: User page".

"User:" is one of the namespaces of Tolkien Gateway (or any other wiki-based encyclopedia). Every page in User namespace - a user page - is the home of that editor.

User page

• The userpage is the user's only. No other user is allowed to change anything on it, other than correcting bad linking.
• Tolkien Gateway's staff considers itself above this rule in any of the following cases:
  • The userpage causes many redlinks; in this case, {{user}} is added.
  • If the user uses its userpage as a linkfarm.
  • If the user posts any other links that are considered irrelevant - such as the currently very popular "wow gold".
  • If the user has copyrighted images on his user page; this does not fall under Fair Use.
  • If the user is blocked or banned; in this case, {{banned}} is added.
  • Note: Most of these will be preceded by a message on the user's talk page.

User talk

• The user talk page (accessible under "Dicsussion") belongs to everyone. You are just as little in charge of it as any other talk page on this wiki. You may, of course, decorate it with Template:Usertalk.
• It is not a chat page - it is solely ment to ask questions on the Wiki, the policy, or an edit/action/proposal made by the user.
• Blanking your talk page - even the welcome message - is not done. Unfavourable comments, criticism and such may not be removed - this is considered whitewashing and will be reverted. Repeated attempts may lead to a block.
• If your talk page is getting too long, archive it. Create a sub page (see also below), "User talk:Editor/2008" for example. Link the subpage on your talk page.

User subpages

• Subpages are ment for signatures, Work-in-Progress, essays, reviews, fanfiction, and any other material that can not be placed in Article namespace. As long as they are Tolkien-related or Wiki-related.
• A subpage can be recognized by a "/". Examples include User:KingAragorn/Applications, User:Ederchil/Templates and User:Hyarion/Reviews/Ringers: Lord of the Fans (a sub-subpage).
• Subpages in the User namespace are created like any page. Typing it in Search and clicking the redlink sometimes gets you a page where "User:" is omitted. The safest way to create a new Userspace article is to create a link on a page (preferably, your user page) and press "Show Preview". Do not save, but follow the red link.
• Should you accidentaly create a page without the "User:" in front of it, simply move the page, and tag the first page for deletion with {{delete}}.
