The Tolkien Society of America was the first American Tolkien Society.

The Society was founded by Dick Plotz and several others at Columbia University in February 1965. Two years later, Edward Meskys took over. In 1972, it was merged with the Mythopoeic Society.

The society published two journals, Green Dragon and the Tolkien Journal.
