Third Age 861 (abbreviated to T.A. 861) is the 861st year of the Sun of the Third Age of Middle-earth.
Notable events in this year include:
- Death of King Eärendur of Arnor.[1]
- Dissension amongst Eärendur's three sons leads to the division of Arnor into the three separate kingdoms of Arthedain, Cardolan and Rhudaur.[2]
- Eärendur's eldest son, Amlaith of Fornost, becomes the first King of Arthedain.[3]
