Third Age 1944 (abbreviated to T.A. 1944) is the 1944th year of the Sun of the Third Age of Middle-earth. Third Age 1944 was also known as S.R. 344 in Shire-reckoning.
Notable events in this year include:
- 9 July: News of the oncoming of the enemy reach Pelargir.[1]
- Disaster of the Morannon
- King Ondoher falls in battle.[2] His sons Artamir and Faramir are also killed.[1][3]
- 13 July: Minohtar is overwhelmed by Wainriders and slain by an arrow.[1]
- Eärnil defeats the enemy in South Ithilien. He then wins the Battle of the Camp, and drives Wainriders into the Dead Marshes.[2]
- Pelendur briefly rules Gondor.[3]
- Arvedui claims the crown of Gondor.[2][3]
