The Tale of the Sun and Moon is the eighth chapter of The Book of Lost Tales Part One.

Eriol still desired limpë, the magical elven drink. Lindo told Eriol that Eriol had first to visit Gilfanon (who was than visiting Lindo) in his House of the Hundred Chimneys. Lindo told his story:

The Valar unsuccessfully tried to heal the Trees wasting light. Finally Vána with the help of Yavanna caused Laurelin to give the fruit from which the Sun (Sári or Űr) was made. Urwendi steered it. It was too hot and Lórien caused Silpion to give a Rose from which the Moon (Rána or Sil) was made. Ilinsor steered it. The Moon was heavier than the Sun.
