The First 'Silmarillion' Map (map)
From Tolkien Gateway
The First 'Silmarillion' Map is a map of Beleriand drawn by J.R.R. Tolkien on single sheet (likely dating from c. 1926-30[note 1]), with "two supplementary sheets, giving an Eastern and a Western extension of to the main or central map".[1] The main map was reproduced in colour in the first (hardcover) edition of The Shaping of Middle-earth (1986), together with the the Eastward and Westward extensions in black-and-white. In the later paperback editions of this volume, the main map has not been included.[2]
Notes
- ↑ Christopher Tolkien believes the map to be contemporary with the manuscript "Sketch of the Mythology"; see J.R.R. Tolkien, Christopher Tolkien (ed.), The Shaping of Middle-earth, "II. The Earliest 'Silmarillion' (The 'Sketch of the Mythology')", p. 11.
