Talk:Icebay of Forochel

Which is the Icebay of Forochel?[edit source]

I just noticed this: there seem to be two candidates for the Icebay of Forochel. In the map contained in my '67 edition of The Lord of the Rings, the Icebay is shown to be the small dip on the north side of Eriador. Looking through our map files, I see this is similarly indicated on some others. However, on the map below, in this article, and other maps, the Icebay is the far larger bay to the north. Which is it? --Narfil Palùrfalas 09:15, 4 March 2008 (EST)

It's a known dilemma; it is better if we include both options and find some refs on it. (Ten minutes later) A quick search in RC(page lxiii) gives a ref to UT(page 13) in which Chris T. comments that it does in fact refer to the entire body of water. And FYI, Fonstad has it too (e.g pp. 52-53). However, on pp. 74-75 she calls the little bay "Ice Bay", and has "Forochel" on the land to its South. This can be explained by lack of space, as it is the northern edge of the map. -- Ederchil 13:55, 4 March 2008 (EST)
