Even usually reliable sources, like The Complete Guide to Middle-earth, The Encyclopedia of Arda and The Thain's Book treat the statement that Durthang was built by Gondor after Sauron's defeat in the War of the Last Alliance like a fact without disclosing that it is only a possibility and without disclosing on which statements by J.R.R.
