Solmath was the second month of the Shire Calendar, with thirty days approximately corresponding to modern 22 January through 20 February.[1]
Etymology
The name represents a modernization of the Old English name for February, Solmónaþ, meaning "mud-month".[2][3]
In colloquial hobbitish, the month was pronounced, and sometimes spelled, Somath.[1]
