History
Minalcar was born during the reign of Hyarmendacil II. His father was Calmacil, the younger brother of the King's grandson Narmacil I.
Minalcar was a vigourous man, as his uncle King Narmacil I recognized.  In order to unburden himself from the cares of government, Narmacil appointed Minalcar as Regent of the realm in 1240. From then until his father's death in 1304, Minalcar ruled in the name of the kings before becoming King in his own right.

His uncle Narmacil took Gondor's throne in the year Third Age 1226. Narmacil was not a man suited to the rigours of Kingship, and chose instead to appoint a Regent to rule the Kingdom in his stead. His choice settled on his nephew Minalcar, who took up the Regency in 1240. Having been given this authority, Minalcar acted swiftly to secure Gondor's borders. He built a huge army, and marched with it into the east were he destroyed the Easterling forces between Rhovanion and the Sea of Rhûn. After this great event, he took a title first used by his ancestor in the sixth century, Rómendacil the "East-victor".
As Regent, Minalcar's main concern was the state of the North.  In the wide lands beyond the Anduin the Northmen had multiplied. These people had been shown favour by the Kings in the past but when, in the days of Narmacil I, the Easterlings resumed their attacks it was discovered that not all of the Northmen adhered to Gondor.  To secure the region, in 1248 Minalcar led a great force that defeated a large Easterling army between Rhovanion and the Sea of Rhûn, and even destroyed their encampments east of the Sea. Minalcar then took the name Rómendacil or "East-victor".

Not satisfied with his great victory in the east, Rómendacil set about fortifying the Anduin. It was he who built the Pillars of the Argonath above Nen Hithoel, as a warning and a marker of Gondor's northern border. He developed less tangible defences, too, working to cement a bond between Gondor and the Northmen who lived to the east. He went so far to send his son Valacar to live among them, an act from which the evils of the Kin-strife would eventually develop.
After his victory Rómendacil fortified the western shore of the Anduin up to the River Limlight, and had the Pillars of the Argonath built above Nen Hithoel.  Seeking to increase Gondor's manpower, Rómendacil brought many Northmen into his service. To one leader, Vidugavia, who called himself the King of Rhovanion, Rómendacil showed special favour. He sent his son Valacar in 1250 to live with Vidugavia as Gondor's ambassador.

Narmacil died without an heir, and his brother, Minalcar's father Calmacil, succeeded instead. Calmacil was King in name only, for he allowed his illustrious son to continue to rule as Regent. On the death of his father ten years later, the man who had actually been ruling Gondor for the previous sixty-four years finally became its true King, under his famous name Rómendacil II.
When Narmacil died with no child, Rómendacil's father Calmacil succeeded to the throne. Calmacil, coming to the Kingship in his old age, kept Rómendacil in his position as Regent. When Calmacil died in 1304 his son finally became the King, and became Rómendacil II.

Rómendacil II ruled as Regent for sixty-four years and as King of Gondor for a further sixty-two years. He was succeeded by his son Valacar.

Rómendacil II (T.A. 1126[1]1366[2], aged 240 years), born Minalcar, was the nineteenth King of Gondor.

History

Minalcar was a vigourous man, as his uncle King Narmacil I recognized. In order to unburden himself from the cares of government, Narmacil appointed Minalcar as Regent of the realm in T.A. 1240. From then until his father's death in 1304, Minalcar ruled in the name of the kings before becoming King in his own right.

To secure the region, in T.A. 1248 Minalcar led a great force that defeated a large Easterling army between Rhovanion and the Sea of Rhûn, and even destroyed their encampments east of the Sea. Minalcar then took the name Rómendacil or "East-victor".

He sent his son Valacar in T.A. 1250 to live with Vidugavia as Gondor's ambassador.

When Narmacil died with no child, Rómendacil's father Calmacil succeeded to the throne. Calmacil, coming to the Kingship in his old age, kept Rómendacil in his position as Regent. When Calmacil died in 1304 his son finally became the King, and became Rómendacil II.[3]
