Main article: Túrin

Mormegil was Sindarin for "Black Sword" and was the name given to Túrin Turambar while he dwelt in the halls of Nargothrond. He was given this name in reference to his black sword Gurthang, which made him the city's leading warrior.[1] It was sometimes used later when he dwelt in the Forest of Brethil.[2]

Etymology

The name is composed of morn "black" and megil which is a variant of magol.
