Michael N. Stanton (25 July 1938 - 15 December 2011[1]) was Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Vermont. He was the author of Hobbits, Elves, and Wizards and contributed numerous articles to the J.R.R. Tolkien Encyclopedia. Stanton also contributed to Tolkien in New Zealand and Tolkien and the Modern Middle Ages among various other papers and lectures.
