Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. is an independent, privately-held motion picture, television, home video, and theatrical production and distribution company. Their most successful film to date is the 11-Oscar winning Ben-Hur.

MGM owns the distribution rights to The Hobbit, and a row with New Line Cinema prevented any movie adaptation. But now, the row is settled, and in 2010 and 2011, the release of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit and its sequel are scheduled.
