Linaewen was a long, narrow lake within the vast marshland of reeds and pools that formed the Marshes of Nevrast, which were in the eastern lowlands of the country of Nevrast.[1] The margins of Linaewen abounded with wading birds of every kind.[2] It was from these birds that it took its name: Linaewen is Elvish for "lake of birds".[3]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Linaewen is a Sindarin name, composed of lind ("pool, mere") + aew ("bird") + en (adjective suffix), therefore "Lake of Birds".[4]
