On 13-15 June 1964, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Mr W.R. Matthews.

  • Descriptions: Tolkien made a carbon copy of the letter and included it in the manuscript folder containing Words, Phrases & Passages in The Lord of the Rings. The letter contains a discussion of the Black Speech.
  • Publication: A large section of the letter was published in Parma Eldalamberon, issue 17.[1]
