On 12 April 1956, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Mr Earle.[1][2]

  • Subject: Discussion of the sources of The Lord of the Rings, and the origin and pronunciation of the surname "Tolkien".[1][2]
  • Description: According to the records of the Marquette Unviersity, the letter was "offered for sale by DMK Books with The Lord of the Rings in 3 volumes, First Editions in dust jackets, George Allwen & Unwin, London 1954-1955".[2]
