I was recently looking at pages that need improvement as defined by the {{cleanup}} tag and was surprised to see a few listed as unsatisfactory. One main example being Ithilien, which has been marked for cleanup since 2009, yet it has been drastically expanded since then and appears (to my novice eyes) as being entirely satisfactory now.

Is there a clear definition for the cleanup tag and what requires it?

How shall one know if a page has reach a stage where it is then acceptable to delete the tag? —Unsigned comment by JR Snow (talk • contribs).

I understand "Clean up" refers to the language of the article and the structure. As far as I know, there is no policy on when a template should be removed. An authority like an admin should be judging that, or at least those who are familiarized with the Manual of Style. I rarely delete them, only when I think that will help the wiki to focus on what actually needs to be improved. Anycase, never delete them sistematically or edit an article just for that without asking first. --LorenzoCB 14:58, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
