Tolkien Gateway > Forums > Fan Work policy?

Is there any kind of policy for what sort of fanworks (i.e. unlicensed adaptations of some form) get pages? It seems like there are pages for works that are not very notable like obscure computer games from the 80s or parodies that have been otherwise forgotten. What determines what gets a page or not?Turiannerevarine 01:26, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

I don't think there is a notability policy as in wikipedia. Anything that has been published, especially commercially, can go. Actually I think it is desirable to record obscure and forgotten works. Sage 05:09, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
I agree with Sage. It is hard for an individual reader of Tolkien Gateway to judge which adaptions have been forgotten or are still remembered and used. For example the Middle-Earth Roleplaying (MERP) booklets have been been out of print for many years, but they are still used for roleplaying, still have a fan magazine (Other Minds magazine) with news issues every year, a facebook Group for the fan magazine and modules created by fans and the notionclubarchives fandom Web pages. The MERP modules contain detailed maps and a wealth of information about different areas and buildings and the culture and history of the inhabitants as weil as the geography, flora, fauna and weather. The modules of newer roleplaying games, such as The One Ring (TOR) or of computer games typically do not have as much detail. --Akhorahil 07:42, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
