The Fall of Dol Guldur was an epic battle of the War of the Ring, culminating the Rhovanion campaign.
Prelude
During the War of the Ring, in March T.A. 3019, the forces from Dol Guldur assaulted Lórien and Mirkwood but were defeated in all times. After the destruction of the One Ring, the Shadow of Sauron was lifted from the hearts of his enemies;Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag Celeborn led many boats with Galadhrim across the Anduin and assaulted the fortress; and it was within a few days captured.[source?] After the battle, Galadriel came and threw down its walls and laid bare its pits, cleansing the forest.[1]
Aftermath
On April 6 Celeborn and King Thranduil met in the midst of the forest and renamed it Eryn Lasgalen "wood of green leaves". Celeborn took the land south of The Narrows for himself and named it East Lórien, while Thranduil took all wood north of the Mountains of Mirkwood, and they gave the middle of the wood to the Beornings and Woodmen.[1]
