Eldalótë was the wife of Angrod. Their son was Orodreth, a lord of Nargothrond.[1]

She probably joined the Exile of the Noldor, as her name was translated into Sindarin in later legend, but she is not mentioned in any of the tales of Beleriand.[note 1]

Etymology

Eldalótë is Quenya for "Elven-flower", from Elda ("Elf") + lótë ("flower"). The Sindarin form of her name was Eðellos (spelled Edhellos).[1]

Notes

  1. This can be assumed by considering a note that Finarfin was "the only name of a Ñoldo who did not come into exile to receive a Sindarin form"; therefore as Eldalótë also had a Sindarin name, she was one of the Exiles. Cf. J.R.R. Tolkien, Christopher Tolkien (ed.), The Peoples of Middle-earth, "XI. The Shibboleth of Fëanor", "Notes", p. 360, note 31
