East Dales

Revision as of 16:57, 9 March 2008 by Nazg (Talk | contribs)

The term East Dales probably refers to the northern slopes and valleys of the White Mountains east of the Folde, in Rohan. As such it means more or less the same area as Eastfold, a much more common name. In their book The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion Wayne Hammond ja Christina Scull explain the name simply as a synonym for Eastfold, though they do not give any additional sources for this statement.

East Dales are mentioned only once in The Lord of the Rings, when it is told how those of the Rohirrim who had fallen in the Battle of the Hornburg were buried in two mounds; those of the Westfold in one and those from the East Dales in another.
