Eärendur (Q "sea-servant", pron. [ˌe.aˈrendur]) was the fifteenth Lord of Andúnië in Númenor and lived during the reign of King Ar-Sakalthôr. He was a leader of the Faithful during the time when the King's Men were growing in influence. Eärendur was the brother of Lindórië, who would be the grandmother of the wise King Tar-Palantir.[1]

As Lord of Andúnië, Eärendur was also the ancestor of the Kings of the Gondor and Arnor in Middle-earth. Aragorn II was his direct descendant through no less than forty-four generations.

Etymology

Eärendur means "Servant of the Sea" in Quenya (from eär , "sea" and -ndur, meaning "servant").
